Gatsby
February 24, 2018 - February 25, 2018
Ballet Palm Beach will put a pirouette on one of the greatest works of American literature when it stages Gatsby, February 24 and 25. Based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel The Great Gatsby, this original ballet tells the story of the enigmatic Jay Gatsby, his forlorn love, Daisy Buchanan, and his curious neighbor, Nick Carraway, set against the backdrop of the Roaring ’20s. Colleen Smith, the company’s artistic director, choreographed Gatsby, which features costumes by Elisa Saether and a score by George Gershwin and Django Rheinhart, among others. Ballet Palm Beach premiered the two-hour-long piece in 2016 and is reviving it with Tyveze Littlejohn in the titular role and Lily Ojea Loveland as Daisy. Performances will take place at Benjamin Hall at The Benjamin School in Palm Beach Gardens and are scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 4 p.m. (561-814-5598)
