The Second Annual South Florida Independent Retailer Awards

September 19, 2019 @ 7:30 am - 1:30 pm

$129 – $199

Approximately 400 guests are expected to attend the second annual South Florida Independent Retailer Awards, which will focus on the exceptional small businesses that make South Florida’s shopping centers unique. The event ― which has a mission to bring expanding local independent retailers together with the shopping center community ― will feature networking, programming, an awards program with live voting, and a networking lunch. Sponsorships ranging from $1,500 to $10,000 are available. One hundred percent of the event’s net proceeds will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters (Miami, Broward and Palm Beach chapters).

Awards will be presented in up to 13 categories, with three finalists in each. Categories include bakery, fitness, medical retail, salon suites, nails, home, daycare, athletic retail, and a variety of restaurant categories. All nominees must be a truly independent retailer (not a national chain or a franchise), with two or more locations and actively expanding. The owner/manager needs to be present for the entire Sept. 19 event. Nominations for the awards will be accepted until June 15.

The event will offer a separate general and retailer program. Sarah Quinlan, former senior vice president of MasterCard Market Insights, will serve as the keynote speaker. Programming will include round table discussions; a retail master class with Angel Cicerone, retail and restaurant consultant and author; and more. During a retailer “Shark Tank” event, one of last year’s winners will pitch landlords for the opportunity for free rent, construction allowance and other concessions.

The South Florida Independent Retailer Awards “Think Tank” includes Beth Azor, Josee Crosbie and Kara Morabito of Azor Advisory Services; Hue Chen and Alyona Tsutskova of Saglo Development, Andrei Pintilie and Jennifer Houston of Edens, Mike Mogerman of Trinity Commercial Group, JJ Bujalski of RPT Realty, and Jorge Ventura of RK Centers.

Ambassadors, who will be in charge of two retailers each, are Luis Nazario of Saglo Realty, Grace Chance of SiteCenters, Karen Maerovitz of Katz & Associates, Lauren McGee of Archon Commercial, Gabe Gonzalez of RegencyCenters, Robin Robins of FIRM Realty, Cammi Goldberg of Courtelis, Jonah Twist of CBRE, Jonathan Rosen of JLL, Chantal Voss of Newmark Knight Frank, Crystal Rodriguez of Salzman RE, Liz Powers of Windsor Realty, Liz Higgins of Terranova Corp, Daniel Gardner of Weingarten Realty, and Edmee Morin of RPT Realty.
