The Historical Society of Palm Beach County welcomed community leaders, elected officials, supporters, and guests to the Historic 1916 Courthouse to celebrate the unveiling of the “Escribiendo Nuestra Historia” Hispanic Heritage exhibition during an evening dedicated to recognizing the history, culture, and lasting contributions of Palm Beach County’s Hispanic and Latino communities.
About the Exhibit and Program
“Escribiendo Nuestra Historia” is a Latin Quarter initiative dedicated to documenting and preserving the stories and contributions of Hispanic families in Palm Beach County. In partnership with Dina Rubio, president and co-founder of Latin Quarter West Palm Beach, the Historical Society of Palm Beach County is highlighting 14 individuals whose personal stories reflect the many ways Hispanic residents have shaped Palm Beach County’s history, culture, economy, and civic life. The exhibition brings these stories together and highlights the Latin Quarter’s broader effort to preserve and share the experiences of the county’s Hispanic community.
The celebration began with a reception and opportunity for guests to experience the Historical Society’s special exhibition before moving to the third-floor Historic Courtroom for an evening program featuring local history, personal stories, and cultural performances.
The program also featured speakers Jose Tagle, Jr. and Miriam Naranjo, who shared stories and perspectives reflecting the experiences and contributions of the Hispanic community in Palm Beach County.
Through the combination of oral histories, artifacts, photographs, performances, and personal storytelling, the evening demonstrated the importance of preserving history not simply as a record of the past, but as a way of better understanding the community Palm Beach County has become today.
