The Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach will welcome locals for the ninth annual Lunar New Year Community Day, celebrating the Norton’s Chinese Art Collection and welcoming the Year of the Rabbit. The festivities run from noon to 7:30 p.m. on January 21.

This year’s celebration will include dramatic and colorful dragon and lion dances presented by the Li Koon Hung Kung Fu Chinese Martial Arts Association of Sunrise, as well as tours, storytelling, and art-making activities. The day will conclude with a lecture by Vice President of the Asian Art Group and Senior Chinese Art Specialist at Bonhams, Dessa Goddard, and a fireworks display over the Intracoastal Waterway.

Also on the schedule is a live concert by Min Xiao-Fen, traditional music for pipa, as part of the Lunar New Year celebration in the Stiller Auditorium. Space is limited, and free tickets for the concert are available at the museum’s reception desk beginning one hour before the program.

On Friday evening, Xiao-Fen will be joined by guitarist Rez Abbasi for a concert at Art After Dark. Xiao-Fen and Abbasi will perform original work, including Xiao-Fen’s acclaimed “White Lotus,” her soundtrack for the classic Chinese silent film “The Goddess” (1934). The movie will be shown during the concert.

The museum is free to the public from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on January 21. For a complete Lunar New Year celebration schedule, click here.
