The Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach will invite the community to reflect, celebrate, and honor traditions during Juneteenth Community Day on June 14.

The intergenerational event celebrates freedom and spotlights the African American experience with live musical performances, dance, gallery talks on art by African American artists, storytelling, and art activities.

Highlights of the day include:

  • Music by Mr. Trombone, rising jazz star Mikayla Smith, the Xavier Alston Experience, and singer-songwriter Cynn Sage
  • Dance by Soul Stage Dance Ensemble
  • Dance class with Ayize Hanif
  • Choreopoems by Brévo Theatre, an organization founded by Zaylin Yates and Terrence Pride at Florida A&M University
  • A drumline by the kids at Faiths’ Place Center for Arts Education

Docents and the museum team will host Spotlight Tours to highlight works in the collection by African American artists. Stop in for an art project with guest teaching artists Brian Wood and Christie Toussaint in Open Studio, and enjoy bites by The Restaurant at the Norton.

Kick things off during Art After Dark on June 13, beginning at 5 p.m. Admission to the museum during Art After Dark is $5-$10; admission to Juneteenth Community Day is free for all. For more information, visit norton.org.
