The South Florida Science Center and Aquarium is teaming up with BarWars LLC once again to present MolecuBar, a special 21+ event where creative cocktails plus a little education will be on tap.
The unique event, which was first began by a young professionals group as a fun way to mix creative cocktails and a good time with education, will allow guests to delve into the science of molecular mixology through new and sensational flavors, textures, and visuals utilizing food and drink on a molecular level.

“This will be the second year the event is ran by the Science Center and BarWars LLC,” says Melinda Velasquez, Marketing Coordinator for the science center. “We thought, ‘How can we make a happy hour event different and unique?’ and decided to do the science behind your favorite cocktail creations, beer, or wine because it’s fascinating to learn how all of these things are made.”
Festivities typically draw several hundred people, and will kick off this year on Thursday, November 3 at 6 p.m.
This year, guests can explore the flavor profiles and chemical reactions behind their favorite cocktails, sample a variety of tasty bites courtesy of local restaurants and breweries, and view live science demos and interactive mixology competitions complete with special bar tricks. Blue Martini, Guanabanas, Christina’s Caterint, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, and Myschyf Liquor are some of the participating places.
“The local restaurants create molecular gastronomy demonstrations right in front of you that you can eat, and the bartenders come in and mix their favorite things as well,” says Velasquez. “We’ve never been disappointed.”
Raffles and a special Kahlua Karaoke with a live DJ will be held in the planetarium as well.
“My favorite part is the Kahula Karaoke in the planetarium,” Velasquez admits. “It’s so fun – you go in, take a shot of Kahlua, and then there’s the karaoke going on on our big domed screen. It’s really just a fun night to let loose, and it’s also a great networking event since many people come straight from work.”
Treats featured at previous years have included merlot liquid nitrogen ice cream, sphered mojitos, vodka caviar, unique craft beer, and light hors d’oeuvres.
Pre-sale tickets cost $20 for general admission and $45 for VIP tickets, which include access to an interactive mixology workshop with BarWars LLC as well as a VIP-exclusive goodie bag including themed cocktail shakers and more.
