R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Find out what it means to you when the Boca Raton Theatre Guild brings Respect: A Musical Journey of Women to Mizner Park Cultural Arts Center’s Studio Theatre in Boca Raton. Running December 5 to January 5, the show is a mash-up of excerpts from 60 Top-40 songs interspersed throughout stories about women realizing their dreams, enduring relationship struggles, entering the workforce, gaining independence and more, showcasing just how much the female culture has changed in the past century.
With popular music as the backdrop, Respect shines a light on the struggle women fought throughout the twentieth century to gain equal footing with their male counterparts. And while the musical does speak to recent history, the evolution of social change and how society is becoming more balanced and equal, it is also a whole lot of fun. From Betty Boop and Rosie the Riveter to Cyndi Lauper and Britney Spears, the musical displays the power of the fairer sex in one ballad after the next.
