Good news for those looking for natural stress remedies: It turns out bird-watching is an even more tweet-worthy endeavor than previously thought. Results from a recent study from the University of Exeter, the British Trust for Ornithology, and the University of Queensland, Australia, suggest observing birds is associated with lower levels of depression, anxiety, and stress. The researchers found that being near natural elements such as trees and shrubs and the ability to spot birds, particularly in the afternoon, had a beneficial impact on happiness.

Wondering how to attract some of the 405 species of bird that can be found in Palm Beach County to your backyard? First, visit the National Audubon Society’s Plants for Birds database to discover native plants that will appeal to specific birds and the names of nearby nurseries and retailers that carry them.
