Midsummer in the Nordic countries traditionally marks the peak of summer and calls for some serious celebration. To honor the occasion, Johan’s Jöe in West Palm Beach will offer a full traditional Swedish dinner for four to-go, complete with a flower crown kit you can create at home, on Friday, June 19.
From delicious food to beautiful flowers, Matti Klintberg, co-owner of Johan’s Jöe, wanted to share the joyous Midsummer traditions of his childhood with the patrons across Palm Beach and Broward Counties.
“Every Midsummer morning, we would go outside to pick wildflowers to make our Midsummer crowns. I loved dancing around the Maypole and eating Swedish meatballs and delicious Swedish strawberry cake outside with my family and friends.” said Klintberg.
In previous years, co-owner Laura Olsson has taught Johan’s Jöe customers how to create her favorite part of the celebration: flower crowns. She wants to continue the tradition, but ensure customer safety through the COVID-19 crisis.
“Our make-your-own flower crown kits this year offered the perfect opportunity to help bring some cheer to people in a safe manner during this pandemic, so they can enjoy at home with their family.” said Olsson.
Families in Palm Beach and Broward Counties can enjoy the traditional Swedish spread of pickled herring, smoked salmon, caviar, bread, cheeses, pastries and much more to fuel the fun of traditional Midsummer celebration games and crafts.
Patrons are invited to place their orders by filling out an order form here by 6 p.m. on Monday, June 15. After completing the online order request, a staff member will contact you to discuss details. All carry-out food items are cold and include specific reheating instructions.
Broward meal pickup will be hosted at the Scandinavian Center (2950 S Flamingo Rd, Davie, FL 33330) on Thursday, June 18 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The downtown West Palm Beach pickup will take place Friday, June 19, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Johan’s Joe (401 S. Dixie Hwy, West Palm Beach, FL 33401). Delivery in Broward and Palm Beach County is available for an additional fee.
