Palm Beach Gardens continues to gain culinary clout with the opening of Scusi Trattoria, a concept from chef Laurent Tourondel, known for his BLT restaurants and addictive Gruyère popovers. Located inside the former Vic & Angelo’s space in PGA Commons, Scusi’s coastal interior—marked by a whitewashed palette dotted with blues and citrus hues—transports diners to a sun-drenched café in Capri. The menu, inspired by the Sunday suppers the French restaurateur used to share with his Italian grandmother, forwards the oceanfront vibe. Think lighter plates that evoke images of the Mediterranean seaside, such as a bright zucchini salad with almonds or octopus ’nduja with a spicy aioli. A wood-burning oven imparts a subtle smokiness to dishes like branzino al limone, fileted over spinach and mushrooms, and charred cauliflower dusted with pecorino.
“The idea was to create something simple where people could come to eat two or three times a week,” says Tourondel, who found the location thanks to a partner who lives in Jupiter. House-made pasta and the Neapolitan pizza, made in an oven imported from Italy, will keep guests coming back. We recommend the speck pizza with four types of cheese, smoked prosciutto, and caraway seeds, or the mushroom and truffle ’za—and be sure to dip every last bite of the crust in chili oil. Tourondel worked hard to perfect the dough, and it shows. For dessert, embody la dolce vita by finishing with homemade gelato and sorbet in flavors such as lemon ricotta and pistachio orange marmalade.
