While traditional tea parties were all about white gloves and finger sandwiches, modern tea moments are health experiencesbrewing up benefits on both a physical and mental level.

Building on a childhood spent in the mountainous region of Yunnan in China, where tea originated, Jia Li spreads ancient tea culture through Tea Tell Truth, the West Palm Beach-based company she created. Tea Tell Truth focuses primarily on Puerh (or Pu-erh) tea, which is handpicked from ancient tea trees in Yunnan and then brewed with postfermented tea leaves. The tea’s health benefits include everything from detoxification, promotion of blood circulation, and weight management to nervous system protection and improved bone health. Li also offers classes in Tea Mindfulness, an active meditation process where individuals cultivate tranquil, let-go moments where they step into the present and release anxieties from the fastpaced world. The ceremony of preparing, brewing, and enjoying the tea promotes inner peace, reduces stress, and can easily become a valued daily addition to a self-care routine.

Wondering where to start sipping on your tea journey? Li recommends these varieties:

  • 2009 Raw Puerh Tea from the Jingmai Mountains or Bingdao Mountains. Raw PuerhTea naturally ferments for years. Like a fine wine, the flavors change every year.
  • Aged Mandarin Ripe Puerh Tea. The mandarin peel becomes more flavorful and fragrant as the tea ages and it contains a super-flavonoid, or antioxidant, called tangeretin. Super-flavonoids have shown promise in studies as an effective way to lower cholesterol, while having healthy levels of vitamin C in your body has been tied to healthy skin.
  • Yunnan Cold Brew Green Tea. A unique green tea collected from the Ailao Mountains in Yunnan, cold brew Yunnan is the best tea for our year-round tropical climate. There’s no need to heat up water or spend a lengthy amount of time to brew. This tea only needs 5-10 minutes brewing time with cold water to enjoy.
